West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service launch their public consultation:

West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service has today launched a public consultation on its proposals for its next Community Risk Management Plan. This plan will set out the direction of the fire service for the next four years.

The service is keen to hear from as many people as possible on its proposals, and so residents are invited to take the time to review the public consultation and share your thoughts.

The consultation comes after the service ran a community questionnaire last year in which it asked residents to highlight the areas of risk within their communities that concerned them the most. Many took the time to complete this questionnaire and the Fire Service are incredibly grateful for all of the valuable insight shared. This has helped them prepare this set of proposals based on previous feedback.

The consultation can be completed online, or by filling out a paper copy of the consultation. IIf you would like a paper copy, please either email yourfireservice@westsussex.gov.uk or 01243 786211 and one will be sent out.

Please sign the Storrington Traffic Group’s petition

Horsham Trafalgar Neighbourhood Council have been approached by Claudia Fisher, Horsham District councillor, to help tackle traffic matters in Storrington & Washington.

Storrington is a village where over 6 million vehicles pass through each year, and 40% of them speed. This traffic is affecting local resident’s health, safety and quality of life

A group of local residents have set up the non-political Storrington Traffic Group, a community voice. After a year of exploring every option, they believe a 20mph speed limit is the simplest, most cost effective way to cut pollution, reduce harm to people and wildlife, and ease traffic. They now need to show that there is public backing for the initiative.

Please sign the Storrington Traffic Group’s petition today to support a 20mph limit in Storrington and Cowfold – the two villages not only with the worst air quality in Horsham District but in the whole of West Sussex.  Anyone who lives, works or studies in West Sussex can sign.

It’s not just about slowing drivers down – it’s about reducing through-traffic and making our streets safer, quieter, and healthier for everyone. Google Maps and sat navs at times will send drivers elsewhere if the journey takes just a bit longer.

The group already have nearly 750 online signatures and many more on paper – but need more to show clear community support.

Signing will help make Storrington and Cowfold better places to live – not just for now, but for the next generations.

Hedgehog Homes in Trafalgar

After a detailed survey of potential sites, Trafalgar Neighbourhood Council commissioned Men’s Shed Horsham to produce a series of hedgehog nesting boxes using 100% recycled materials and before the onset of winter we were able to place two boxes around the recreation ground – with one in Trafalgar Infants School, two located at either ends of the Shelley allotments, two being located around the edges of Birds Farm allotments, one in the 2nd Horsham Scout Hut grounds, and one in the garden of Holy Trinity Church.

As the winter hibernating season has passed, Warnham Nature Reserve has agreed to site one of the boxes outside their cafe for promotional benefits – please take a look when you are next visiting the reserve – one of our signs provides full details of why the boxes are so valuable and seeks to encourage more residents to prepare one for their own in their gardens ready for next Autumn.

Leonard Crosbie Awards 2025

Horsham Trafalgar Neighbourhood Council celebrated its annual awards to volunteers on 14th May 2025, at their AGM. Certificates were presented to those in Trafalgar Neighbourhood who go over and above in helping make their community a wonderful place to live.

A group award was presented to the Speedwatch team who have been doing such great work in managing the rat-run particularly along Rushams Road. Colin Bush has been very active in trying to persuade County Council to permit a 20s Plenty area along the two busiest roads.

The individual award was presented to John Woolgar who has been looking after the Trinity Cricket pitch since 1988, providing a safe and family friendly space for everyone to enjoy.  The club house welcomes visitors and has even been called the best “pub garden” in Horsham!

Another group certificate was presented to Horsham Green Gym, who helped with seed planting, building a log pile for the rare stag beetles, and supported a litter picking event.

The business award was presented to the Butterfly Project which started in a bedsit in 2009 and now is an international organisation, joyfully supporting adults to be the best possible version of themselves.

The winner of the ecology certificate was David Bridges of Wild about Warnham, who helped with a two-year swift box project, seed distribution and an educational hedgehog box project and this award will be presented at the June meeting of HTNC.

We congratulate and thank all those who work so hard to make our community so very special!

Wind in the Willows

Holy Trinity Church are excited to host the return of The Living Theatre, Whitwell to Rushams Road. This professional theatre company (a non-profit making registered charity), will bring to life Wind in the Willows in a fun, lively hour- long show: a treat for all ages. A proportion of the takings will also go to the Holy Trinity 125 Appeal.

Performances will be in the church garden, (in the church if wet). Bring your own chairs or picnic blankets to sit on.

You are welcome and encouraged to bring your own picnic. There will be a Pimms/Beer Bar. Other refreshments will be on sale at both performances.

Sometimes, just stepping out of your front door can lead to a huge adventure! The storytelling fun will capture young imaginations as everyday objects become shiny motorcars, beautiful boats and warring weasels, in The Living Theatre’s original adaptation of Wind in the Willows.
